It’s the same story all over the world. Cities are experiencing huge traffic problems and choose to expand their road network, invest heavily in public transport ór they choose an alternative solution and biking is one of those. Bike lanes and parking are essential, but even more important is changing the traffic culture and perception in favour of bikes. Urban planning and design helps changing the city: planning smart locations for schools, parks, public transport and shops encourage the use of bikes and neighbourhoods that are designed at a human scale invite people to walk or bike instead of driving the car. Costa Rica held a conference about sustainable mobility and co-organized with the Dutch Embassy a round table about biking. Camila Pinzon spoke on behalf of the Dutch Cycling Embassy during the round table and stressed the importance of a holistic approach to implement biking successful.
